Where beginner guitar playing meets little musical stories
“Easy Guitar Pieces 1” by Stanislav Juřica is intended for beginner guitarists and can serve as an instructive supplement to any beginner guitar method. The publication contains 15 short pieces with a romantic character, suitable mainly for students in the first and second years of ZUŠ music schools aged 8–10, including capable students from the age of seven. The pieces are accompanied by a brief methodological note focused on developing and reinforcing the basic habits of guitar playing. The titles of the individual pieces are given in Czech, English and German, giving the collection a practical linguistic dimension alongside its musical purpose. Thanks to its short and varied pieces, the collection can be useful for lessons, home practice and a young guitarist’s first introduction to guitar repertoire.

An interesting feature of this collection is its distinctly instructional character. “Easy Guitar Pieces 1” is not conceived merely as a set of exercises, but as a collection of short musical pieces designed to practise and reinforce the basic habits of guitar playing. The individual pieces have a romantic character and explore a variety of subjects, from nature and animals to dances and character pieces. Each piece is accompanied by a Czech, English and German title. The collection therefore combines practical instruction for beginner guitarists with varied repertoire that can be more engaging for a young player than purely technical exercises. The publication is intended mainly for students in the first and second years of ZUŠ music schools aged 8–10, although capable children from the age of seven can also use it.
Stanislav Juřica taught at the Pardubice Conservatory from its establishment in 1978 until 2018, and many notable guitar soloists and teachers studied under him. Since 2010, he has also taught at the ZUŠ in Přelouč and has worked for more than thirty years as an accredited lecturer in further education for ZUŠ teachers. Together with Martin Mysliveček and Olga Dvorská, he founded and directed the International Guitar Festival with master classes in Mikulov for twenty years; he is also known for his instructional guitar publications and transcriptions of Renaissance and Baroque music.
