Chamber Music for Three Guitars
...a co takto? by Vítězslav Štefl presents a selection of ten pieces from the 16th and 17th centuries arranged for three guitars. The publication is intended primarily for students of music schools and gives young guitarists an opportunity to explore historical repertoire through ensemble playing. Each piece is provided in standard notation as well as tablature, making the material accessible to players with different levels of experience. The publication also includes QR codes linking to MP3 recordings, which can be useful when listening to and rehearsing the individual pieces. The repertoire includes dances and other short works with contrasting characters, ranging from Polský tanec and Uherský tanec to Corrente and Německý tanec.

During my teaching career at music schools, I have adopted one rule – the student must play. I am convinced you know what I mean. Playing, being able to play, is the foundation. Everything else can be built on that. Another thing I have always enjoyed is ensemble playing, regardless of the instrumentation. That is why I decided to arrange selected pieces for three guitars. Thanks to these arrangements, the time before a student can approach the interpretation of such works is significantly shortened. The children can see the results of their efforts sooner, practise ensemble playing and discover beautiful and inspiring pieces. Whether they are played by three students, perhaps from different grades, or by a teacher and two students, it is above all an opportunity to play music together.
Vítězslav Štefl is a guitarist, teacher, music writer and author of music publications. Throughout his long teaching career, he has also focused on creating materials that allow students to develop their technical skills through practical music-making. The publication ...a co takto? grew out of his effort to give young guitarists the opportunity to play together while discovering valuable historical repertoire.
